7 Tips For Safely Hanging Your Christmas Lights
As much as we love seeing a roof lit up with lights we also want everyone to be safe while adding Christmas cheer to their street. We’ve compiled a list of things to keep in mind before skipping up the ladder with your lights.
Tip 1: First things first. You will need to inspect your lights and extension cords to ensure they are in perfect working order. Of course, all of your lights and extension cords must be external. Also, ensure your ladder is stable.
Tip 2: Ensure you have thought out your lighting plan before getting up. Measure your roof area and check it against the length of your lights. Make sure you measure this distance from your power source to your roof. There is no point doing all this work if you cannot light it up!
Not following these tips may lead you to a situation like this,
minus the snow…
Tip 3: Have all the right equipment before starting. You will obviously need a ladder to start. Clearly, Christmas lights are top of the list along with the right clips to attach the lights to your roof/gutter. It is also wise to have a safe way of keeping these clips easily accessible to you while on the roof in something like a bum bag. I am aware that most people do not own a bum bag in this day and age so perhaps large pockets or a small backpack that will not fall into your way.
Tip 4: NEVER get on your roof if it is damp or dewy. Wet paint is like ice and you can slip off as quickly as you stepped on!
Tip 5: Always ensure someone is with you while you are hanging your lights. If an accident were to happen you need to make sure help can be called right away. Your mobile in your pocket is useless if you are knocked out.
Tip 6: LOOK UP. If power lines are close by make sure you are clear away from them. The only thing we want to be cooked is our Christmas dinner!
Tip 7: And lastly, stand back and admire your work. Then post a photo on our Facebook page!
